It’s been 6 years since I last cycled around Lac de Sainte-Croix. Back then Kay and I had a stopover at Observatoire Astronomique de Bauduen and I did a lap the following morning. The observatory is highly recommended by the way if you’re planning on staying in the area. And even if you don’t stay there it’s still well worth a night-time visit. Go stargazing with Olivier – the host – and listen to him unravel the mysteries of the night sky.
It’s 35 miles around the lake and in 2018 I started near Bauduen and rode it anti-clockwise. This time I went clockwise instead, again starting near Bauduen. Lac de Sainte-Croix is actually a reservoir and was constructed during the early ’70s. To the east is the Verdon Gorge where it’s fed by the Verdon river and marked by Pont du Galetasis. To the west is a 94m high hydroelectric dam. connect.garmin.com/activity/16654988386
